Essential Oils 101

What are Essential Oils?

Why should you care about essential oils? What are essential oils? They are the fluid inside a tree or plant that is essential for it to live. Some call it the plant’s “immune system.” The molecules that make up these oils are tiny, and can penetrate every cell in the human body.

Essential Oils have been in existance since the beginning of time.   These essential oils come from the bark, roots, trees, and flowers.   Essential oils have been found to be antibacterial, antimicrobial, antiviral, anti-fungal, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidants.

Many modern, over-the-counter (OTC)  drugs are “synthetics”, they are made to recreate nature.  Young Living Essential Oils (YLEO) are a healthy alternatives to OTC drugs.  YLEO  are pure, undiluted, and chemical-free   In short: YLEO  can be a healthy alternative to common OTC drugs which have lots of scary side effects.

Are All Essential Oils the same?

The answer is NO!!  YLEO are the finest quality out there.  After all, isn’t quality what it is all about?  For example, let’s compare two tomato’s.  1 tomato is grown from a toxin-free, organic home-grown garden and the other is bought from a large grocery store coming from a large farm which has nutrient depleted soil which is full of pesticides. Both tomatoes are red, but their nutritional value is very different. Personally, I’ll take the organic homegrown tomato any day!

The same holds true for Essential Oils. The process used to obtain the essential oils is critical to the end product.

  • Therapeutic Grade — 100% pure, medicinal, handled with care, nothing added or removed.

Even though a bottle of oil may say 100% pure oil, it may not be the case and it may not have the quality of a farm free of pesticides and toxins like Young Living does. .

Remember the example of the tomatoes:  Both are red tomatoes, however the nutritional value of them impacts the body very differently.

To experience the full health benefits of EO,  you must use 100% pure, therapeutic-grade essential oils.  Regulations are not strict, so anyone can claim 100% pure.  It’s very important to know your source.

How Are Young Living Essential Oils Obtained?

Young Living owns 9 farms and has contracted with 14 other farms on 4 Continents to grow their plants in their “Seed to Seal Process”  which never uses pesticides or additives. When the plant is carefully cultivated  a specialized distilling process allows these essential oils to be harvested.  The end product can have therapeutic benefits.

Young Living takes great pride in their “Seed to Seal Process”, which means that no pesticides or additives were used .  Read more about The Seed to Seal Process  here

How Do You Use Essential Oils?

Aromatically – this is probably the most common form of all essential oil usage.  It can be inhaled directly from the bottle, diffusing the oils in a diffuser, a few drops of essential oil in a warm bowl of water or placed on a cotton ball.  It is the fastest method for absorption.  You get a great diffuser with the purchase of your Premium Starter Kit===>click here to get started now.

Internally – Young Living’s oils are therapeutic grade, meaning the integrity and potency of the oils have been protected to the fullest and therefore most of the oils are safe to ingest.  (ALWAYS read the labels before ingesting EO.) I only trust and use Young Living.  Adding EO’s  to a vegetable capsule is one way to take them.  They can also be added to a drink or consumed straight in the mouth.  *Please remember to ALWAYS check the safety of each oil before consuming.  NOT ALL essential oils can be taken internally or ingested please read the label.

Topically – applying Young Living essential oils topically is safe.   Applying the oils to the bottoms of the feet is a quick way to get the oils into the system or you can apply directly over the abdomen, for example, with a  GI upset.  Using a warm compress over an area helps to drive the oil in deeper and faster.  Topical application takes 2-3 minutes to reach the bloodstream, 20 minutes for it to effect all cells, and metabolism occurs in 2 ½ hrs or so.  Inhaling the oils take approximately 22 seconds for an oil to reach the brain.

ALWAYS  make sure to read the directions on the bottle, as each oil has unique directions. Secondly, I like to “test” the oil on myself before I apply it to my children.  It is important to always have a carrier oil (organic grape seed, coconut, olive oil, or Young Living V6 to name a few) available should the application need some diluting.  Remember, water does not dilute oil- it intensifies it so ALWAYS have a carrier oil at hand.

This information is to be applied only to Young Living oils.
