Valor II and Peace & Calming II

Young Living recently released two new blends, Valor II and Peace & Calming II. The original blends, Valor & Peace & Calming are out of stock due to some harvesting shortages of some of the oils in these blends. I have to admit that Peace & Calming is one of my FAVORITE blends. I use it almost every night as I diffuse it in the house to settle everyone down for the evening.  I recently tried the Peace & Calming II & love it as well. Young Living Diffuser Options

  www.Oils1dropatatime.com(3)

With Young Living’s new Premium Starter Kit, you can now choose which diffuser you’d like!  Are you thinking… GREAT! But what is the difference between the diffusers?

The chart above shows you the difference of the diffusers found in the Premium Starter Kit.  It compares looks, area of coverage, how much water it takes, weight, noise level and a few other things.  A great new new feature, which I love  is that all the diffusers found in the PSKI have a timed shut off light, so you can use them in the bedroom at night.

It is worth pointing out that the Home & Aria diffusers recommend using distilled water & the Dewdrop & Bamboo use tap water.

The complete line of Young Living Diffusers Comparison chart can be found here.

I personally have the Home & Dewdrop Diffuser & use them everyday. Diffusing is on of my favorite uses of my Essential Oils.

Jade Lemon Essential Oil

I have to say I am so pumped about this month’s promotion of Jade Lemon Essential Oil.  It is one that I have been wanting to try for a while!  I have read and talked to many people who LOVE it!  Let me tell you a bit about it courtesy of Dr. Woolley from Young Living.

Jade Lemon Essential Oil

So let me give you a brief overview of Jade Lemon Essential Oil in case you had trouble with the YouTube clip:

  • It’s grown in Taiwan, which is a warm and humid climate.
  • While other lemons begin to release some of their oils aromatically as they turn yellow, the jade lemon fruit remains green even in maturity, allowing the concentration of oil to continue within the fruit.
  • Jade Lemon contains high levels of d-limonene, which helps invigorate, uplift, and energize
  • Jade Lemon contains high levels of d-limonene supports clarity of thought and purpose.
  • Jade Lemon supports skin health but be careful in the sun with photosensitivity & UV rays
  • Jade Lemon helps open and release emotional blocks
  • Jade Lemon is useful to clean, detox, and purify.
  • A 1995 Mie University study also found that citrus fragrances induce relaxation and invoke feelings of happiness.

Save Money With Essential Oils

www.Oils1dropatatime.com-1

In the past few yrs. or so I have been really putting an emphasis on living a more healthy and natural way of living from buying our foods from local farmers, cutting down on processed foods,  eliminating “sports drinks”  (if you have teenage boys, you know what a challenge this is!) & using “Green, Non-toxic” cleaning products for both my home as well as personal products.   I have to admit, when I first looked at Young Living Essential Oils, I thought “Wow! These oils are so expensive!”   Wait… Let me delve deeper into this thought!

It took me about a year of researching and using Essential Oils to “take the plunge” of investing $150.00 for the Premium Starter Kit. Yes, I say “Investment” because in the long run, I am SAVING money by using it for my family’s health, and cleaning supplies. We are using YL Essential Oils on a daily basis for both out health & cleaning supplies.  We have noticed a TREMENDOUS difference in how we feel and have been saving money!  Now, who doesn’t like to have better health AND save money? Here is a cost breakdown of the EO found in the Everyday Oils Kit per drop.  (This is found in the PSK)

Young Living Essential Oils

We Chose Young Living because….

  • They grow plants on their own farms so they know exactly where the plants and oils come from and the conditions they are grown in.
  • They are 100% Therapeutic Grade- translated into safe, natural, & pure with no additives.
  • “Seed to Seal Process”

  Seed to Seal graphic

How Can You Save Money?

  • A  5 ml bottle of essential oil about 80 drops of oil.
  • A 15 ml. bottle contains about 250 drops of oil
  • Each Premium Starter Kit contains- 11- 5 ml bottles of Essential Oils, 10 sample packs a reference guide, & a diffuser.  Cost: $150.00
  • No expiration date- if stored properly!
  • Dilution of Essential Oils- Diluting the oils helps them to last longer. Be sure to read the label on your essential oil to see the usage recommendations.
  • Potentially less co-pays for sick office visits.  We had no sick office visits this yr.  A huge comparison from the previous year when we have multiple “sick office visits” co-pays.
  • Replacement of multiple expensive cleaning supplies with non-toxic DIY cleaning products. Click here to read my post on using Thieves Household Cleaning
  • Diffuse Essential Oils instead of burning candles or using an air freshener. I use my diffuser everyday to help me put a “pep in my step” and to help quiet us down to get some much needed  ZZZZZ’s. (Click here to read my post of Springtime recipes for diffusing & Cedar wood),   I typically diffuse for 3-4 hours & use about 5-7 drops of essential oil. Not only are you getting a wonderful smell, saving money, but have added health benefits!   A win-win all around!!

Thinking About Using Essential Oils, But Not Sure Where To Start?

If you are worried or overwhelmed about getting started with YL Essential Oils (I have to admit, I was!) Don’t be!   I am here to help you.  I admit I had a bit of a learning curve,  which is why I recommend the purchasing  the Premium Starter Kit.  It comes with the Everyday Oils Collection, a Diffuser (LOVE it!) , AND I will send you an Essential Oil Reference Guide (or App).  I feel it is imperative that you have a Reference guide to know how to use your Essential Oils appropriately.   Purchasing the Premium Starter Kit also gives you access to our Oil Moxie Group, which is a HUGE resource.  I also encourage you to talk to your health care provider about incorporating the use of Essential Oils as you begin your wellness journey.

lavender

Young Living Lavender Essential Oil comes from 3 Young Living farms found in France, Idaho, and Utah.

It takes 27 lavender plants to make 1 bottle of Lavender Essential Oil. That’s a lot of plants!

The term Lavandula comes from the Latin word lavare , which means “to wash.”   It suggests that it was first use was as a disinfectant and an antiseptic. Lavender was used in India and Tibet to treat psychiatric conditions, by the ancient Egyptians as part of the mummification process, and in the sixteenth century Europe, lavender skullcaps were thought to increase intelligence. Lavender was used by Greeks as a perfume, the Romans used it for its cleansing qualities, to deter insects, & Queen Elizabeth used it in her tea to sooth tension. Essential Oils for Sleep

Lately, I’ve been having trouble falling asleep. My mind is racing 500 mph thinking of the “bazillion” things I have to do or didn’t do.  I just can’t seem to relax.   When I eventually fall asleep it seems like my alarm clock is going off within minutes & I am crabby!!  I am one of those people who “need” about 8 hrs. of sleep otherwise I am crabby & tend to get sick. Even in college, I couldn’t pull off those notorious “All Nighters”   I NEED my Zzz’s! (My family can attest to this! 😉

To the rescue…. My diffuser & Young Living Essential Oils!

Oils to Help You Sleep

Essential Oils for Sleep(2)

Some Essential Oils To Help Fall Asleep from Young Living:

  • Lavender– Lavender  has a fresh, sweet, floral, herbaceous aroma.  It is soothing and it is great for relaxing and winding down before bedtime.
  • Valerian  Ok- I must say that this is not the most pleasant smelling oils, but it does work great to help promote a good nights sleep!! (I put a drop on my great toe before getting into bed) & diffuse the room with other oils! Valerian has been used for thousands of years for its calming, grounding, and emotionally balancing influences.  Researchers have pinpointed the sesquiterpenes, valerenic acid, and valerone as the active components that create a calming and restorative effect on the central nervous system.
  • RutaVaLa promotes relaxation by helping to ease tension and relieve stress.
  • Cedarwood– has a warm, balsamic, and woody aroma.  It is relaxing and soothing. I LOVE to diffuse it with Lavender!!
  • Vetiver  has a heavy, earthy fragrance with a touch of lemon. Vetiver oil is  grounding, calming, and stabilizing.
  • Marjoram  is not just for cooking- it also helps you get some Zzz’s!!  It has a woody, spicy aroma. It is a calming oil and has a warming effect on both mind and body.
  • Peace & Calming® is a gentle, fragrant blend. Diffused- it helps calm tensions and uplift the spirit, promoting relaxation and a sense of peace. I love to diffuse it in the evening to help “wind us down.”

How Much Sleep Do You Really Need?

(according to Mayo Clinic)

Age group Recommended amount of sleep
Infants 9-10 hours at night, plus 3 or more hours of naps
Toddlers 9-10 hours at night, plus 2-3 hours of naps
School-age children 9-11 hours
Adults

7-8 hours

Helpful Tips For A Good Nights Sleep & To Develop Good “Sleep Hygiene”

Oil tips:

  • Place a few drops of oil on your feet or great toe
  • Diffuse an essential oil in your bedroom
  • Put a few drops on your pillow
  • Sniff the oil straight from the bottle
  • Mix essential oil with a carrier oil &  massage into the skin
  • Take a relaxing bath before bed with Epsom salts and your favorite calming oil

Some tips from the National Sleep Foundation

  1. Stick to a sleep schedule to go to bed and wake up at the same time, even on the weekends. This helps to regulate your body’s “clock.”
  2. Practice a relaxing bedtime ritual. A relaxing, routine activity right before bedtime. Avoid bright lights, excitement, or stressful activities.
  3. Avoid naps, especially in the afternoon.  Those power naps while helping to get through the day,  may prevent falling asleep at bedtime.
  4. Exercise daily. 30 minutes of vigorous exercise is best, but a light exercise is better than no activity.
  5. Evaluate your room. Design your sleep environment to establish the conditions you promote sleep. Your bedroom should be cool – between 60-67 degrees and should be free from any noise and lights that can disturb your sleep.
  6. Sleep on a comfortable mattress and pillow.  Make sure your mattress is comfortable and supportive. The one you have been using for years may have exceeded its life expectancy – about 9 or 10 years for most good quality mattresses.
  7. Use bright light to help manage your circadian rhythms.  Avoid bright light in the evening and expose yourself to sunlight in the morning. This helps keep your circadian rhythms in order.
  8. Avoid alcohol, cigarettes, and heavy meals in the evening. Alcohol, cigarettes and caffeine can disrupt sleep. Avoid eating large meals for two to three hours before bedtime. Try a light snack 45 min. before bed if needed.
  9. Wind down. Your body needs time to shift into sleep mode, so spend the last hour before bed doing a calming activity  i.e. reading or taking a soothing bath. Avoid electronic devices such as a laptop, tablet, or smartphones.  The lighting activates the brain which can make it hard to fall asleep,
  10. If you can’t sleep, go into another room and do something relaxing until you feel tired. If possible, remove tv’s & computers from your bedroom. It will help associate your bedroom with sleep only.

I definitely don’t want to be like a George Costanza from “Seinfeld.” Do you?

If you are still having trouble sleeping after trying these oil techniques  & recommendations, speak with your health care provider.

Purification Essential Oil Blend

I walk in from the bus stop & think what is that awful smell!?!   My first reaction … I need to turn on my diffuser & get my Purification Essential Oil going!!   You see, I take my son to the bus stop every morning. Yup- even though he is in 7th grade I still do the morning walk – (or drive if it is too cold.)  It gives me that extra time for some 1:1 time with him, which I know is fleeting. (Having Freshmen in college, I know I need to grab every nano-second with him, as soon he won’t want to be seen with me, much less “talk” to me!!   An added bonus it gets our dog, Molly, out for a walk as well!)   Anyway … today I smell this morning’s breakfast casualty- burnt waffles!!   In the flurry of getting ready this morning, (a late night from baseball practice= sleeping a bit too long) the waffles got a little too done & ended up in the garbage.  Big bummer!  I guess it is time to turn on the diffuser with a few drops of Purification & a few minutes later- voila- burnt waffle smell gone!!  I love the fresh smell of Purification– kind of a lemony-citronella smell.

www.Oils1dropatatime.com

Purification Essential Oil Blend  is actually a blend of Lemongrass, Citronella, Rosemary, Lavender, Myrtle, and Melaleuca essential oils.

How to Use Purification Essential Oil:

Diffuse: Can be used to cleanse and purify the air from environmental impurities including cigarette smoke and other disagreeable odors.

Topical: Can used directly on the skin to cleanse and soothe.

Other uses:

  • Can be added to your washing machine to freshen laundry.  I have to admit, I have forgotten about a load of clothes in the washer & had that AWFUL “musty smell”  A drop or 2 of Purification took care of that smell lickety-split!   (Add to soap dispenser or tub of water.  Don’t place directly on clothes, it can stain them)
  • Drop in stinky shoes to neutralize smells & kill germs
  • Place a few drops on cotton balls & place in car or room vents
  • Apply to skin to cleanse & soothe insect bites
  • Diffuse Purification to eliminate odors after the dog returns from playing outdoors or in the rain.
  • Diffuse to dispel unpleasant odors and clear the air of impurities.

Use Essential Oils To Help Sell Your Home!

Thinking Of Moving or Know Someone Who Is?  Do You Know A Realtor?  YES!  Then Be Sure To Read This Post!

Use Essential Oils To Help Sell Your

I noticed  “For Sales” signs popping up as I was driving.  A sure sign that Spring is on the way & you may have thought it was spotting a Robin!! 😉   I exhaled a huge sigh of relief that it wasn’t me this time!  We have moved a few times since we have been married- 6 to be exact, but who’s counting!   All of our moves have been positive experiences where we have made friends & great memories.  Our most recent & LAST move (I pray!) has been back home to the Midwest this past August.  As much as I enjoyed living in the East Coast & Georgia, there is nothing quite like being back “Home.”

For each move we did the typical “de-cluttering” which meant renting a storage unit for all those large plastic tubs filled with clothes saved for my youngest son, holiday decorations (Yep- I’m one of those people who decorate for each holiday) & other things we weren’t ready to part with.  The memories of “WE HAVE A SHOWING IN 30 MINUTES!!” & frantic last-minute picking up makes me shudder even now!  To top it off, I felt compelled to have freshly baked chocolate chip cookies sitting on the table to tantalize the potential buyer & to fill the house with their delicious aroma, covering up any lingering odors. (Did I mention I have 3 active teenage boys & a beautiful Golden Retriever who loves to roll in the freshly mown grass?)  Yep, a “few” smells to cover up for sure!

The baking always put me in a tizzy- well, not the baking itself, but the clean up! Who wants to wash those last-minute baking pans & bowls when there are stinky socks sticking out from under beds? If only I had discovered Essential Oils– it would have made a very stressful situation, less stressful.

Research Supporting Essential Oil Use for Selling a Home

A study out of Washington State University by Eric Spangenberg, found that the right aroma will influence people to buy something.  His study used a straightforward orange aroma vs. an orange-basil blend. The results showed that sales went up by 20% when the plain orange scent hung lightly in the air. He also stated that simple, straightforward scents like lemon or cinnamon are easier to “process” than complex smells like chocolate chip cookies (which have mixed odors of vanilla & chocolate.)   Read the full article here.

There are also articles in “US News & World Report” & “The Morning Call” which talk about using Essential Oils to help sell your home.   They point out that Essential Oils are “naturally distilled from plants” & thus less likely for a person to show an adverse reaction from the synthetic fragrances found in candles, plugs ins, or a room deodorizer.

lemon 1

How Do You Use Essential Oils To Sell A Home?

  1. The easiest way to scent any room is with a Diffuser. The diffuser disperses the essential oils into a fine vapor, spreading the oils into the air.
  2. Another method is to place a drop or two onto a cotton ball & place them unobtrusively on a shelf or in a vent.
  3. You can also mix Baking Soda & an Essential Oil together in a container & sprinkle it over your carpet- then vacuum away!  Be sure to first test on a small area out of view.

Some Helpful Tips:

  •  Always “test drive” diffusing before showing a house. Practice diffusing a few times to determine the “correct” amount of oil drops to place in the diffuser. You don’t want it overpowering or too light.
  • Avoid over-powering scents like flowery ones.
  • Don’t use “fake “ scented products like candles, warmers, or plug-ins. They can be overpowering, cause the buyer to think  you are trying to hide something, PLUS they are made with synthetic chemicals which could cause adverse reactions.
  • Try to match the location or “mood” of your home with the oil. Do you have a home near the woods? How about trying some pine? Is it near the beach or a bright area?  Diffuse a Citrus Essential Oil- like Lemon.  Added BONUS: Citrus Essential Oils are “mood uplifting”, which is exactly what you want from a potential buyer!
