Essential Oils To Take When Traveling

Essential Oils To Take When Traveling

After the long & cold winter we decided to take advantage of our kids school Spring Break  & go on vacation.   Along with our summer clothes,  flip-flops, & sunscreen I always bring a few key Essential Oils to take when traveling.  Not only will they help protect us from “the different germs”  found in a public places and hotel rooms but other things that might make our trip “less than desirable” such as too much sun, stomach aches, as well as the general stress and anxiety of traveling. My Essential Oils bring a bit of peace of mind  which is so important to help me enjoy our vacation.

I bring a “Travel Essential Oil Bag” & put it in my carry-on where it is extremely accessible.  We all get a little queasy when flying or driving, so being able to grab my oils within a few seconds is imperative!   To be honest, my “Travel Essential Oil Bag”  is my bag of Essential Oils that I carry everyday in my pocketbook with an additional oil or 2!   The easiest way I have found to pack them to get through TSA security is to put them in a quart size TSA approved zip bag.  An added bonus:  most of my Favorite Essential Oils for Traveling are found in the Premium Starter Kit!

My Favorite Essential Oils To Take When Traveling

Favorite Essential Oils for Travel(1)

  • Immuno-protective qualities A few drops in our juice every morning to help keep us healthy.
  • Thieves Hand Sanitizer or a couple drops of Thieves rubbed in the hands.  Use in the airplane, at the airport, or any public place. There is nothing worse in my mind then getting sick while on vacation!

  • Stomach Discomfort From Motion- A quick sniff or two helps settle our stomach down in a jiff.
  • Head Tension- a drop on my temples & I’m good to go within a few minutes.
  • Soreness- Mixed with  a few drops of carrier oil & rubbed on my legs or feet if I am feeling the effects of a long day of walking.  Can you say… “Ahhhh!”

  • Sun Relief- If we’ve been in the sun a tad too long I rub a few drops of Lavender on the affected area.  It can be either “neat” or mixed with a carrier oil. It is soooo soothing to the skin!
  • Sleep Aid- If we are a little “wound” & can’t quite settle down to sleep, a few drops on the pillow & it is “Nighty-Night” time.

Citrus Essential Oils– (Lemon, Lime, Grapefruit, Orange, Citrus Fresh)

  • Hydration- I bring a bottle or 2 of citrus essential oils & add a few drops to  our water throughout the day. (Lemon & Lime are 2 of my favorites!)  It helps maintain our hydration when we are being active outside.  Hydration also helps to prevent jet lag!

  • Digestive Discomfort- If we’ve over-indulged a bit from dinner or eaten something that we normally don’t & feel a bit of discomfort in the tummy, I rub a few drops of DiGize rubbed around the navel.  It is a sure bet to help make our tummy feel better.

Peace & Calming

  • Relaxation- When flying, I  take a sniff or two from the bottle before taking off.
  • Stress- It gets a tad crazy trying to get all 5 of us ready, the pets settled & the house in order before we leave the house on vacation.  I will admit to a secret- I am one of “those people” who changes the sheets & mop the floors before leaving on vacation. My husband thinks I’m neurotic my response… We all have “our things” & that is one of mine!  In order to help with my stress, I diffuse Peace & Calming while I’m changing sheets & mopping the floor.  It really does help alleviate some of my stress.
  • Sleep Aid- We will take a sniff or two of Peace & Calming to help “wind” down after a busy day of sight-seeing or “fun in the sun” & to help us get to sleep.

V6- carrier oil.

  • I put it in a TSA approved plastic bottle to use as needed with my Essential Oils

Peppermint Essential Oil

If someone asked my what my favorite Young Living Essential Oil was,  I honestly don’t think I could pick just 1.  I can say that Peppermint Essential Oil would be in my top 10.  It can be used in so many different ways from flavoring things to wellness!

Peppermint Oil

Uses of Peppermint Oil

What is Peppermint used for you may be asking? Let’s see what Young Living has to say about it:

  • Help support normal digestion. If I ate something that didn’t quite agree with me, I pull out peppermint oil. Usage: Add a drop of peppermint essential oil to herbal tea or warm water.
  • Soothe the minor stomach discomfort associated with travel.  If you are like my family & suffer from stomach discomfort while driving, you don’t want to leave home without this!!   I always carry this with me in my pocketbook- just in case!   Usage: Massage several drops of peppermint essential oil on the abdomen, place a drop on wrists, or inhale.
  • Help relieve head pressure. This cooling sensation really helps with discomfort.  Especially useful if I’m driving a car full of teenagers!  Usage: carefully rub one drop of Young Living peppermint essential oil on the temples, forehead, over sinuses and on the back of the neck (dilute with carrier oil to desired potency).  Be careful to avoid skin too close to the eyes.
  • To help improve concentration and alertness.  If my son has been studying hard for a test or really concentrating on something, he takes a drop or 2 of peppermint oil to help “revitalize” him.  Usage: Place 2 drops of peppermint essential oil on the tongue and rub another drop of oil under the nose (Dilute drop under nose with a carrier oil.)
  • Help kick up energy level up a notch  I use take a sniff of Peppermint or put it in my water bottle before I hit the gym.  Usage: Add a drop of peppermint essential oil to water.
  • Jump start your morning routine. If I need an “extra” boost in the morning I will take a sniff of Peppermint.  It really kicks me into gear.  Usage: Inhale peppermint essential oil, apply topically to your temples or neck, or put a drop on your tongue.
  • Curb the desire to snack. To help with me stick with my 2015 goals I will diffuse Peppermint Oil  in the afternoon when I am feeling like a sugary snack.  Usage: Diffuse or inhale peppermint essential oil mid-morning.
  • Soothe minor stomach discomfort. To help with that occasional stomach discomfort.  Usage: Inhale peppermint essential oil or rub a drop on to your abdomen

Much research has been done on the beneficial uses of Peppermint Oil.  Dr. Jean Valnet studied the supportive effects on liver and respiratory systems. Dr. William Dember from The University of Cincinnati studied mental concentration and sharpness using Peppermint. Dr. Alan Hirsch studied the effect of Peppermint to satisfy hunger sensations. A recent study found in The Journal of International Society of Sports Nutrition showed that Peppermint may have a positive effect on exercise performance. To read about these studies click here.

A Bit About Peppermint- Just Because….

First described in England in 1696, peppermint and its oil have been used in Eastern and Western traditional medicine for its aroma, and infections and a wide variety of ailments. Today, the oil is used widely as a flavoring in various products such as chewing gum, mouthwash, pharmaceuticals, and toothpaste. It also is used as an ingredient in cough and cold preparations.  As a menthol component, it is also found in numerous antipruritic, antiseptic, and local anesthetic preparations. Young Living 2015 January Promotions

Welcome!! January 2015 is starting off with some great Young Living promotions. I have to admit, I absolutely love finding out what the promotions are each month & I love that they are “free”.   As I mentioned before, I am still learning about the MANY oils that Young Living offers, so I am excited to not only tell you about them, but MYSELF as well.  Here goes….

Oils 1 drop at a time

Spearmint Essential Oil

Peppermint is one of my “go-to” oils to diffuse, so I am really excited to try Spearmint!

“Spearmint (Mentha spicata) has a minty, slightly fruity scent, softer than peppermint. A rich antioxidant, spearmint helps support the respiratory and nervous systems* and may help open and release emotional blocks leading to a sense of balance and well-being. Spearmint may also be used to enhance the flavor of food.”

Copaiba Essential Oil

I can’t wait to try this oil!  We’ve used Deep Relief for an occassional muscle ache or pain & we’ve loved it!

“Copaiba is a powerful essential oil from South America. It boasts a rich history of providing relief from joint and stomach discomfort. Native healers traditionally used Copaiba’s topical benefits to reduce skin irritations and soothe insect bites. Copaiba contains the highest amounts of beta caryophyllene (55 percent) of any known essential oil. Today Young Living harnesses its power in an all new essential single oil. It’s also one of the key ingredients in Deep Relief and Breath Again Essential Oil Roll-on blends.”

Sleep Essence

Have trouble sleeping?  This is a great option to help you get those recommended 8 hours of sleep/night.

“SleepEssence contains four powerful Young Living Therapeutic Grade™ essential oils that have unique sleep-enhancing properties in a softgel vegetarian capsule for easy ingestion. Combining lavender, vetiver, valerian, and Ruta graveolens essential oils with the hormone melatonin—a well-known sleep aid—SleepEssence is a natural way to enable a full night’s rest.”
